Our next Theology Reading Group meeting will be held on Sunday 12th July in St Pancras Church. We will start gathering from 13.00 and our discussion will begin at 13.30.

The topic will be A Love That 'Rejoices with the Truth': Having Pride in Queer Theology. Our texts are:

  • Patrick Cheng, Radical Love: Introduction to Queer Theology

  • The Accounts of Benedetta Carlini in Judith Brown, Immodest Acts

  • Lucian, Dialogues of the Courtesans

This group is open to all, it helps if you manage to find opportunity to read some of the selected texts before the event.

Dialogues of the Courtesans is available online here: Work - ToposText

The other two books are not available online unfortunately, but are relatively inexpensive to purchase.

Recommend reading:

  • the following pages from Cheng's book: pages 50-55, 70-86 and 94-98. He includes questions at the end of each chapter, which will be useful prompts for our discussion.

  • In Immodest Acts, the most relevant passages for our discussion are in the final chapter and epilogue. The whole book is however very readable, if you have the time.

  • Lucian's dialogues are fairly short, so I would recommend picking a handful to read.
