Extracts from Carols by Candlelight

Last Sunday evening's festival of Christmas music and readings was a delight and we are pleased to share some extracts with you.

Carols by Candlelight at St Pancras Church, Euston Road

Our Director of Music and Organist, Douglas Tang, directed a choir of over 20 amazing singers, comprising of our St Pancras Choral Scholars and guests. As you can hear below, they brought us some amazing music as we enjoyed a traditional carol service of none lessons and carols.

MUSIC AT ST PANCRAS & JOINING THE CHOIR

St Pancras New Church is one of the most important 19^th-century churches in England, and was at one point rumoured to be the second most expensive in its construction after St Paul’s Cathedral.

There has historically been a strong choral tradition at the church, with the London Festival of Contemporary Church Music having been established here in 2002, with strong relations with many festivals and music trusts as well. The choir used to be a complement of professional opera and choral singers taken from London conservatoires and opera houses, many of whom have gone on to global careers.

Since a lapse in activities during COVID, we are currently revitalising the music-making within the church, with a formation of a new choral scholarship program, and in building a community of passionate singers.

Our Director of Music, Douglas, is an opera coach from the Royal Academy with many years’ experience working within some of the globe’s foremost cathedrals and colleges (King’s Cambridge, St Mary’s Sydney, Hereford Cathedral, Old Royal Naval College), and we are keen to grow our music offering to aid worship, and to reestablish St Pancras as a musical hub within London.
