Biography:
Cynthia Elisa Garduño Meneses
Double bassist | Performer | Interdisciplinary Artist
Cynthia Elisa Garduño Meneses (Mexico City, 1993) is a double bassist and interdisciplinary artist whose work is rooted in the exploration of the double bass as a contemporary sonic medium. Her artistic practice integrates classical performance with experimental music, sound production, and performative collaboration.
A graduate of the Escuela Superior de Música (INBAL), she has performed in prominent venues such as the United Nations Headquarters in New York, Sala Nezahualcóyotl in Mexico City, and Teatro del Bicentenario in León. In 2019, she was selected as a fellow of the Eduardo Mata University Youth Orchestra. Her interest in expanding the role of the double bass has led her to collaborate on hybrid stage works such as Perfópera (2018), where she performed live as an on-stage musician, and Manifiesta (2022), where she served as music producer for a documentary performance project.
In 2021, she completed a diploma in electronic and experimental music production at El Bedroom, deepening her research into alternative soundscapes. Currently, she is pursuing a Master’s in Music Performance at the Guildhall School of Music & Drama in London under the guidance of Luis Cabrera and Marco Behtash, focusing on performative development and contemporary repertoire for the double bass.
Her current project, Contrabajo desencadenado (Unleashed double bass), explores 20th- and 21st-century music written specifically for the low string voice, through a series of recitals and sound-based performances in Mexico City.
