Biography:

Described as an “outstanding pianist” by critics in Silent London, Andra Bacila is a Romanian classical pianist studying at the Royal Academy of Music with Professor Joanna MacGregor CBE. After receiving a full scholarship, winning the Hargreaves and Ball Award, she has showcased her artistry to prestigious venues across the UK and Europe. Some of her recent solo performances, after her first solo debut at the Liszt Institute in Paris, include venues such as St James’s Church Piccadilly, the University Church St. Mary in Oxford, St. Cuthbert’s Church, and has performed the Schumann Piano Concerto in A minor in the distinguished Romanian Athenaeum.

Andra’s solo career is complemented by her passion for chamber music. To celebrate the new production of Rusalka in 2023, she has been invited by the Czech Philharmonic to perform with Daisy Noton at the Czech Embassy, in the presence of Semyon Bychkov, and later on she was involved with a fund-raising chamber music concert for victims in Turkey and Syria at Central Martins LVMH Theatre.

She has also performed in the Piano Gala of the Odyssey Masterclass in Nafplio, winning two concert opportunities in collaboration with Talent Unlimited, as well as the Stonevale Concert Series. These performances opened new doors, leading to her invitation to join the distinguished Talent Unlimited Foundation in 2024.At the Royal Academy of Music, she has performed in the Summer and Autumn Piano Festivals, captivating audiences with the depth of her musical expression. She participated in “Liszt: The Complete Années de Pèlerinage”, introduced by Joanna MacGregor and Christopher Elton, “Kurtág: The Complete Játékok”, and brought her creative vision in the Improvisation to Film project, working with Neil Brand in 2023 and 2024.

In addition to her performing career, she has also developed a passion for silent films. Following the Improvisation to Film performances in the Academy, she has been invited to take part in one of the most prestigious Silent Film Festivals “Le Giornate del Cinema Muto” in Pordenone, the Netherlands Silent Film Festival in Eindhoven, and has performed in the Kennington Bioscope in London.
