Biography Levi Andreassen
Levi is a 19 year old from Springfield, Missouri who began studying with Riley Robison in 2015 and Jarrett Bastow in 2017. He continued his studies with both teachers until he joined YMS. He joined the Yehudi Menuhin School in 2020 after being introduced to Caroline at the 2018 ISB convention, where he won ‘Best Interpretation of the Required Piece’ for the 14 & Under category, and now continues his studies as an undergraduate with Caroline at the Royal College of Music, where he is a Neville Wathen Scholar.
Levi has had success in a number of competition internationally. Namely, he has recently won 1st Prize at the International Society of Bassists Competition in the 15-18 Youth Solo Division (2023). He was featured in an article by The Strad following his success at ISB. Additional successes include being named a Finalist in the GordonTurner Competition in London 2022, as well as winning First Prize in ‘The Violin Doc Competition’ in 2021. Levi has also won Third Place in the American Classical Young Musician Competition in 2021, and was a Semi-Finalist for the ‘Gregynog Young Musician of the Year’ which is held in Wales.
Outside of his success in competitions, Levi was asked to record Andres Martin's 'La Feria de San T elmo' with Nathan Perry for Orchid Classics' CD 'Around the World in 80 Days' with The Yehudi Menuhin School. During this project with YMS he worked closely with Andrew Keener. This was subsequent to the duo's performance of Andres Martin's 2 Tangos at King's Place London. Additionally, he has worked with and played alongside artists such as Maxim Rysanov and Tessa Lark in orchestral settings.
He became a member of the Missouri Philharmonic in 2017 and now holds the Principal Bass position since 2021. In 2018, he performed the second movement of Bottesini’s Concerto no. 2 with the ensemble, after being named a winner of the Charles R. Hall Competition, and recently returned to the ensemble as a soloist to perform Bottesini's
Biography Kumi Matsuo
Kumi Matsuo was born in Tokyo, Japan. Winner of the 5th Louisiana International Piano Competition in 2013, she has also won Second Prize at the 75th Music Competition of Japan in 2006, Third Prize at the 22nd Ferrol International Piano Competition in 2008 and First Prize at the 6th Isidor Bajic International Piano Competition in 2012. Kumi graduated from the Toho Gakuen High School of Music and the Toho Gakuen University of Music in Tokyo. In 2007 she moved to London for her further study at the Royal College of Music where she gained an Artist Diploma and a Master of Music in Performance. Kumi studied piano with Jyoko Gondo, Mikhail Voskresensky, John Blakely and Ashley Wass and chamber music with Jan Repko. In 2008 Kumi won RCM concerto competition and gave her London debut playing Ravel's Piano Concerto for Left Hand in Cadogan Hall with RCM Sinfonietta conducted by Peter Stark. In 2009 she played Schnittke's Concerto Grosso No.1 with RCM Chamber Orchestra under Vladimir Jurowski the Queen Elisabeth Hall and in 2012 she also performed Prokofiev's 3rd Piano Concerto with RCM Symphony Orchestra under Martin André at the Royal College of Music.
