Biography:

21-year-old Taiwanese pianist Pei-En Wu started her musical journey at the age of four, and is currently in the final year of her Bachelor’s degree, studying with Prof. Ian Fountain at the Royal Academy of Music.

Pei-En was awarded Third Prize at the Beethoven Piano Society of Europe Senior Intercollegiate Competition 2024, representing the Academy after winning the annual Beethoven Piano Prize. She also received the Academy’s ‘Best Original Cadenza’ Prize 2024 for Mozart Concerti and Second place in the Musicians’ Company Harriet Cohen Bach Prize 2023. In 2020, she won Third Prize at the National Student Competition of Music, the most prestigious music competition in Taiwan, followed by her public recital debut later the year. Other competition successes include the International Piano Open Competition in Hong Kong, International Young Pianist Competition in Japan, and China Youth Music Competition.

Despite being born in Taiwan, Pei-En grew up in Shanghai, and had studied with Natalia Filippova, professor at the Middle School of Shanghai Conservatory of Music, for seven years. She has also performed in major concert venues across the city, including the Shanghai Symphony Orchestra Hall, Oriental Arts Center, Beckstein Center.

Pei-En will be continuing her postgraduate studies at the Academy this September, supported by a generous scholarship. Over the years, she has gained inspiration from masterclasses and lessons with renowned musicians such as Dame Imogen Cooper, Christopher Elton, Boris Berman, Adrian Brendel, Pascal Rogé, Yevgeny Sudbin, and Steven Osborne. As an active chamber musician, she performs regularly with her Gokotta Clarinet Trio (est. 2022) across venues in London, and was also a finalist in the RAM Strings and Piano Duo Prize 2025. She has been invited to perform in the Academy’s Summer Piano Festival in all years of her studies.
